Varanasi: The festival of Vaishakh Purnima is being celebrated with great pomp in Kashi today. From Thursday morning, crowds of devotees gathered at all the major ghats including Dashashwamedh Ghat of Kashi to take bath in the Ganga. Since early morning, devotees are taking bath in Ganga and doing charity. The Water Police and NDRF team are alert regarding the safety of the devotees who came to bathe in the Ganga.
Devotees have been taking a holy dip on the banks of Ganga since Thursday morning. Various rituals are also being performed in the temples of the city on Vaishakh Purnima. Preparations for this were going on for many days. The echo of bells and gongs is heard in the temples.
Dhamma Yatra will start today
On Vaishakh Purnima, the mortal remains of Buddhist monk Tathagata are being seen in the Moolgandh Kuti Buddhist temple. The darshan of the remains started at 6 am, which will continue till 11 am. Dhamma Sabha and cultural programs have also been organized in the Moolgandh Buddhist Vihar complex.
Food will be donated at the office premises of Mahabodhi Society of India from 10 am to 10 pm. Dhamma Yatra will start from Kachari to Sarnath at 4 pm. Dhammadeshana will be recited from 6 pm onwards. About one lakh Buddhist devotees have come from many countries including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand.
